Summary:
The Plastics Department Procedure Focused Certified Surgical Technologists are multi-skilled health professionals who work interdependently with other healthcare professionals to provide quality healthcare to the patient.
They are trained to perform both administrative and clinical skills with extensive experience in surgical preparation and assisting.
The Surgical Tech will be required to come in before normal business hours and stay after normal business hours on a regular basis as needed when the Plastic Surgeon is in surgery outside of the clinic.
The CSTs will also work in general clinic with the providers when there are not in procedures/surgeries in or outside clinic.
The goal of the clinical staff is to optimize outcomes and improve the quality of life for patients through efficient, cost effective care.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
o Patient Satisfaction/Responding to Patientsa) Appropriately schedules time off/Limit unscheduled absencesb) Respond to telephone inquiries relating to department servicesc) Return patient calls promptlyd) Provide clean and comfortable environment for patientse) Perform all duties in a timely and efficient mannerf) Notify Patient of test results in a timely manner per clinic/department policyo Prepare patients for examinations and procedureso Ensure consents, supplies, equipment and charts are prepped and set up prior to procedureso Greet and arrive the patiento Follow patient verification protocolo Provide high level of customer serviceo Accurately obtain and record medical histories verify all allergies, medications, and vital signs per clinic and department protocolo Order, collect and prepare laboratory specimens as neededo Handle and care for patient clothing, other personal property including prosthetic devices, hearing aids, dentures, glasses and contact lenses from admission to dischargeo Explain treatment procedureso Ensure proper consents have been signed prior to the procedure by both the patient and MDo Observe procedural time outs per facility policy prior to a caseo Draw up injections as ordered by MDo Explain and Perform Venus Freeze treatments on Plastics Patients as needed.
o Assist the physician during examinations and procedures as neededo Become proficient and assist assigned Plastic Surgeon with all levels of Plastic Surgery cases requested M-F at Surgery Center of Pinehurst and Moore Regional Hospitalo Provide educational materials and aftercare instructionso Supply proper equipmento Applies universal precautions and maintain a sterile field as appropriate for procedureso Prepare dressingso Clean and dress wounds by order of physiciano Take photographso Remove staples or sutureso Prepare and administer medications as directedo Order x-rays and/or cultureso Respond to prescription requests/refillso Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the physiciano Escort patient to the secretary, patient access service associate, or financial counseloro Prepare pathology form, cup collection label, log and record per policyo Recognize and respond to emergencies per policyo Perform administrative duties as directedo Document patient communications and treatments accurately and appropriatelyo Answer telephones and respond to clinical voice mail messages per policyo Obtain prior authorization for medicationso Manage KPI/IPF reports including duplicate medication and medical reconciliationo Maintain task listso Complete charge tickets, labels, consents, dx codeso Other duties as assignedo Post-Operative Follow upa) Carry and answer Plastics after-hours cell phone and discuss patient situations with Plastic Surgeon as neededb) Calls post-operative patientsc) Responds to prescription requests/refillsd) Provides aftercare instructionso Computers:

Ensure Patient & Staff Safetya) Follow OSHA guidelinesb) Follow universal precautions when caring for patients; Use PPE as directedc) Follow all PSC policies when caring for patientsd) Safely transport patients to and from procedure rooms as necessary; assist with ambulation and wheel chairse) Ask for assistance when needed for lifting or transfer patientsf) Maintains CEU's and other requirements to safely care for patients in PSC procedure rooms, and at SCOP and MRH if applicable at all timeso Proactively Assist in Fiscal Management of Clinic Resourcesa) Assist with maintaining established par levels on regularly used suppliesb) Avoid the need to over-night items or pay increased shipping fees for rush ordersc) Notify manager or discuss with peers blocks of time when there are no appointments to maximize down time completing tasks that are difficult to due during a busy clinico Work Collaboratively to Promote Increase in Allergy Clinic Patient Volumea) Assist MD's, department manager and marketing director with department promotions as neededb) Look for ways to expand the clinic services and patients.

Qualifications:
o Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology Programo Current Surgical Technologist certification with no restrictionso Current BLS Certification required; ACLS required if assisting in surgery outside of the clinico Knowledge of infection control, sterile technique and basic health and safety precautions applicable for work in a clinic settingo Ability to use and apply medical terminology appropriatelyo Thorough knowledge of general clinical principles, methodology and measures for outcomeso Administrative skills necessary to effectively perform clerical taskso Prior ENT and/or Plastics surgical experience; knowledge of instruments and equipment used in specialtyo Requires ability to stand for up to eight hours a day, bend, reach, squat, kneel, move, lift of patients and/or equipment up to 50 lbs.
